How do we wake up and know, “Oh, this is what I want to do?” How do satisfied people get into what they are doing? This is one of the toughest challenges I have faced as a member of Generation Z. Knowing that as we get older, we have to do away with uncertainty
This is because, at this stage, nobody is making any decisions for you. However, the decisions you make will affect others. even those who are unborn. If adulthood comes with any pressure, I think this is it. that you can be blamed for your actions and inactions by people who were not even on God’s earth when you made a choice.
The easiest way to do all of this and avoid uncertainty is through a career transition. Make a move. Go from one rung of the ladder to the next. You are either going up or staying put. When it comes to careers, there is no going back—just staying stagnant.
I want to switch careers. Change path. Become a full-blown tech sis. Remember I said there is no going down, only staying put? I have felt stuck in one place for a while, and as a person, it is not my nature. I long for a new burst of life. A challenge. In Ayra Starr’s words, “e dey rush.” I want a rush, and I don’t think I am in a place that gives that.
Career transitioning is not easy. but it is worth it. I know I’ll make that switch soon, and I’ll come back to tell you.
My Advice…
Don’t allow anything or anyone to make you stay put. all bosses will tell you they have plans for you. While that can be true, get a backup plan and allow yourself to grow.
Bills will always keep rising and it is possible to do what you love and get paid well for it. Don’t be lied to.
You don’t have to be stuck in one path. Carve out a new path for yourself.
The easiest way to get a pay raise and grow in your career is either to switch roles. Or move from one company to the other. Although, to build a career, spend at least two years per job. job hopping every six months is not advisable.
Never stop learning. Be creative. Allow your mind to wonder.
Trust God.
Another Advice
I read the book “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell. You should read it as well.
This is the best time to be Gen Z and to be in tech.
Take advantage of it.
