Dear Gen Zs,
In the quiet corners of our lives, secrecy often shrouds itself in darkness, thriving in the absence of light. Yet, in reality, just as photosynthesis sustains life by harnessing the power of the sun's rays, we should also nourish the health of our communities by exposing secrets to truth and transparency.
I thought about secrecy by contrasting how secrets grow in the shadows with the process of photosynthesis. When light hits a plant, it thrives, grows, and flourishes. The very essence of life is illumination. In the absence of light, however, there is stagnation, perhaps even death.
This is the same way secrets thrive when hidden. Evil, in particular, can flourish in secrecy, much like mould growing in a dark, damp corner of a room. It is only when we summon the courage to confront these secrets and dare to bring them into the light that we can begin to dismantle their power.
Recently, I watched a thought-provoking movie centred around cultism. The protagonists faced a choice: confront the force threatening their lives or continue living in fear. How did they solve this? They narrated their troubles to a journalist, who then helped them solve their problems. The more people know, the easier it is to break free.
Remember, when confronted with secrecy, shining a light on the truth is often the most potent weapon we possess. This principle applies not only to the shadows that harbour evil but also to the goodness that exists within us.
In our own lives, when we embark on successful adventures—starting a business, getting a job, working hard—we sometimes shy away from the spotlight, preferring modesty over self-promotion. However, it is important to recognise that bringing our positive actions out into the open can inspire and encourage others. Just like photosynthesis, sharing our good deeds can nourish the spirit of our communities.
As we walk through life, may we be guided by the gentle radiance of truth, both in our actions and in the way we expose the shadows to make our world a brighter, better place.
So, what will you be shining the light on this week?
A drop of honey for your day…
